In 2004, four Indianapolis volunteers conceived Project Home Indy as a sustainable model for a holistic residential program serving the at-risk population of homeless teen mothers and their children. The founders met twice monthly for several years, conducted an extensive needs assessment, drafted a strategic plan, developed a board model and interviewed numerous providers and other non-profits.

In 2008, Project Home Indy secured a site for our residential facility. We entered into a partnership with Trinity Episcopal Church that would provide Project Home Indy with an ideal property to house our residential program. Our home is currently under renovation.

We continue to build strategic partnerships that will help us serve our clients. Project Home Indy is aware that there are many organizations in the community who provide a host of services that our residents can utilize. To date, these partnerships include memorandums of understanding with Planned Parenthood of Central Indiana (Teen Success program), Wishard Health Services (referral source and support services), Raphael Health Center (pre- and post-natal care; child and adolescent health care) and Future Promises (Health and Hospital Program providing case management, counseling and support in four Indianapolis high schools to teen parents).

After developing our programs, establishing house policies and procedures, raising funds for a capitol campaign, growing our board from 4 members to 13, fostering community partnerships and relationships with community grantors, we are on the verge of “turning on the lights” in Project Home Indy in early 2011.
